She’s got some hot Montana men.

Meet Krista Ames, my very special guest today.

Author Bio:
Born and raised in Northern Indiana, Krista now resides in Northern Lower Michigan. She is married to a very supportive man who allows her to follow her true passion of writing and never complains when she is pirated away on her computer for hours. He is excellent at bouncing ideas around with and even helps the occasional writers block. He’s also a terrific “in house” editor. Krista is also a mother of 4 ornery children who keep her plenty busy. With an addition of 2 beautiful chocolate lab sisters and 2 rambunctious cats, there is never a dull or spare moment in her household.

author picKrista has always loved to read and would often sit up for hours into the night not able to put down a book until she was finished. She still reads when she can but her main focus is creating her own stories to share with the world.

She loves to communicate with her readers so please feel free to drop her a line anytime.

Thanks so much for having me today Desiree.

I know everyone asks this but why did you decide to write Romance?

Believe it or not, I haven’t been asked this question yet J I think the real reason started with me reading romance…I started around 9 or 10 years ago, when I moved to Florida. Things weren’t going so well with my marriage and reading a romance was my only escape. It made me feel good again, loved and it didn’t take long for me to be addicted. At some point I started to wonder if I could do it too and that’s about it. It started then with 4 short stories that I got published rough Turquoise Morning Press.

What was the hardest thing you had to do when you started?

I think the hardest thing was to actually believe what I’d written was any good. I still have that trouble today J

What was the easiest thing?   The writing for sure, it just came to me.

How long did it take you to finish your first manuscript and where did the idea come from?

The very first short I wrote was a Christmas story and, well, same with all my ideas, it just came to me. I love Christmas and I wanted my own happily ever after again so I just started writing. I did a lot of my writing at work in my spare time so it took me a month maybe?

Tell me about your first contract?

My first contract was for a short story called Love in an Elevator, to be published in a Christmas anthology. I was so beyond excited I think I screamed when I got the email. My kids were so excited for me, they made me signs and bought me my favorite, White Castle for dinner lol.

Do you base any of your stories on real people or places or events?

I do try to be fairly realistic to places but I don’t usually mimic any real people. So far I haven’t published about any real events but I do have a WiP that is about a yearly event here in Michigan.

What gets you in the mood to write?

Romantic movies. Whenever I write, I have a movie playing. I don’t usually actually watch the movie, just have it playing in the background. One of my first go-to movies is Pride & Prejudice(the one with Kiera Knightly)

Where do you see yourself 5 years from now? 10 years?

5 years? Hopefully still writing with a lot more published but still doing the daily grind as only 1 of my children will have graduated.

10 years? All 4 of my kids will be graduated by then J so the possibilities are endless. I will no doubt suffer from empty nest because my kids are my world but of course I still want to be writing then too.

What do you enjoy most about being an author?   Being able to share my stories with the world.

Okay, quick fun questions:

Favorite ice cream – Vanilla

Favorite music – hard question…I like most music

Favorite movie – equally as hard…Wizard of Oz

Favorite time to write – at night, after everyone is in bed

If you could be stranded with a movie or television star who would you pick? – oh yummy….Ryan Reynolds

If someone played you in a movie who would it be and why? Oh Lord….Holly Marie Combs, I just like her as an actress and a person.

Excerpt:
Since she was ignoring him, Luke wandered outside while contemplating how he would win over the woman he thought he knew so well. He’d noticed a huge stack of uncut logs from the kitchen window, and figured he needed something to do. What better way to take out his frustration?
He lined up three huge chunks and got to swinging, then made a stack beside the porch at the back door.
On his upswing of cutting the next batch of logs, a voice came out of nowhere. “What are you doing now?”
“I needed something to do. Looks like Bill didn’t get a chance to cut wood for you.” He tried not to look in her direction and continued swinging the axe. As she mumbled inexplicably, he could tell she was getting closer by the volume of her voice, and when he sneaked a peak, he could make out her features faintly through the driving snow.
She was just a little scrap of a thing, five feet and two inches, if that, but she’d sure argue another inch or two out of anybody willing to listen. He’d always loved her height. She fit just right in the crook of his shoulder when he wrapped his arms around her. He couldn’t see it now for all the winter Carharts, but she had beautiful shiny black hair that fell past her shoulders when it wasn’t up in a ponytail, and eyes the color of smoky emeralds a person could melt into. Unfortunately, she also had a temper bigger than the Rocky Mountains, and she seemed ready and willing to prove it.
“Did you come out to help me? That was mighty kind of you.” Luke couldn’t help but egg her on.
“No, I did not come out to help you. I was supposed to be doing this.”
She’s mad because I’m cutting wood?
He smirked at her stance. She’d placed both hands on her hips and, if the snow weren’t so deep, he’d be able to see her foot tapping.
“What’s so funny? Do you think this is all a game?”
“I’m sorry, okay? You just look too darn cute standing there.”
She rolled her eyes and turned to walk away.
Luke dropped the ax and ran around her, stopping her progression when he clasped her shoulders. “No, wait, seriously. I’m sorry. If you want me to stop chopping so you can finish, I will, but I was just trying to help. At least let me do this, Morgan.” He raised a pleading eyebrow and dropped his hands to his sides.
“Fine. I’m going back inside. I have other things to do.” She turned from him, heading toward the cabin. “Oh, Luke?”
She had faded slightly from his sight, but he could still see the look she gave brooked no argument. “Please keep your distance. Letting you do this doesn’t change anything.”
“Whatever you say.”
He smirked and, once she was out of sight completely, pulled down his facemask and picked up the ax again.
